How do I get statistics for a universe median?
Right click on the Manager vs. Universe table and select Universe/Percentile. This will show you the Median return for the universe. You can change the statistic by right clicking as well.
How do I change the time periods displayed on the Manager vs. Benchmark, Manager vs. Universe and Calendar Year Return Charts?
To change the time periods for any of the graphs or tables in the Calendar Year Return, Manager vs. Benchmark, or Manager vs. Universe, right click on the graph you want to change and click on Select Time Periods. Then uncheck Automatically Generate Periods, or Use Default Date Range depending on which graph or table you are changing. You can now add, delete, or change dates. To select a time period, i.e. 1 quarter, find a blank row and type 1 in the left cell, then click on the right cell and choose quarter. You can now sort the data in ascending or descending order by using the sort button on the right.
How do I create a universe composite?
To create an equally weighted universe composite right click on Manager vs. Universe graph or table and right click. Select Export
, Save Equal-Weighted Universe Composite. Give the composite a file name 8 characters or less and a more detailed description. The description is what is displayed on StyleADVISOR charts. This new return series can now be found in the User Created Indices database.
Why is my peer group not showing up?
The primary cause of "disappearing universes" is the mixture of a monthly database manager with a quarterly database universe. The most common example is a Morningstar fund with a peer group from the PSN separate account database. Because the fund can have an end date off of a quarter end and the peer group cannot, the universe will disappear. The fix is to either use a monthly peer group or change your analysis end date to correspond with the last quarter end available.
